Letters To America Introduction

Times were often hard and with no welfare state behind them, people had to find employment to survive.  Born in Fenwick, Ayrshire, Scotland, the Shields family moved from Fenwick to Galston, Loudoun and even further afield. Bruce Shields of Vermont, USA inherited a number of letters, sent from Ayrshire to his ancestors in America, and we are pleased that he is allowing us to share them with you.
